Major Research Findings

Prasugrel has been found to be an effective antiplatelet agent in patients undergoing coronary stent implantation, with comparable bleeding rates to those reported in controlled randomized trials. 6 However, minimal bleeding events occurred more frequently than reported, although they did not seem to affect treatment adherence. 6

A network meta-analysis comparing prasugrel and ticagrelor indicated that prasugrel may be more effective at preventing stent thrombosis and recurrent ischemic events. 11

Switching from ticagrelor to prasugrel therapy was associated with an increase in platelet reactivity, although this effect was partially mitigated by an initial loading dose of prasugrel. 14

Prasugrel, when combined with aspirin, demonstrated strong dose-dependent inhibition of platelet aggregation in healthy subjects. 2 It provided greater platelet inhibition than aspirin alone and achieved higher levels of inhibition compared to clopidogrel. 2
