Major Research Findings

Rivastigmine transdermal patch has been shown to be effective in treating mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. 20 , 5 , 15 , 25 , 19 It has been shown to improve cognitive function and activities of daily living. 20 , 21 , 23 Compared to oral formulations, the transdermal patch is associated with fewer side effects, especially in terms of gastrointestinal side effects. 20 , 28 , 1 The patch also has good skin adhesion and a favorable skin tolerability profile. 20 , 29 Additionally, rivastigmine transdermal patch may be effective in improving poor food intake in Alzheimer's disease patients. 9

Benefits and Risks

Benefits Summary

Rivastigmine transdermal patch is an effective treatment option for patients with Alzheimer's disease, with the potential for improving compliance and providing sustained clinical benefit because of its ease of use and generally favorable tolerability profile. 20 , 5 , 15 , 25 , 19 It may improve cognitive function, activities of daily living and reduce side effects. 20 , 21 , 23 It also has good skin adhesion and a favorable skin tolerability profile. 20 , 29
