Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of invasive Hib disease. 2 A study found that a decline in Hib vaccination coverage due to the COVID-19 outbreak could lead to an increase in invasive Hib disease burden in Japan. 2 Another study in Japan showed a significant decrease in the incidence of Hib meningitis after the introduction of the Hib vaccine in 2008. 8 Earlier introduction of the vaccine may have prevented more cases of bacterial meningitis in Japanese children. 8 In Yemen, Hib meningitis was a major cause of death and long-term neurological disability in children before the introduction of the Hib vaccine. 15 Additionally, Uruguay saw a significant decrease in invasive Hib disease after the introduction of the Hib vaccine.

A Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine (PRP-D) was safe and immunogenic in Danish children younger than 18 months of age when administered simultaneously with a diphtheria-, tetanus- and polio-vaccine. Antibody levels significantly increased after vaccination.
